Zinabu Issah Wins Ghana’s First Medal at Commonwealth Games

Ghana has won its first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after para-athlete Zinabu Issah claimed silver in the Women’s F57 Shot Put event.

Issah delivered an impressive season-best throw of 8.65 metres in the final to finish second, giving Team Ghana its first podium finish at the Games in Glasgow. Her achievement comes after several Ghanaian athletes narrowly missed out on medals in their respective events.

Athletes including Abigail Abugire, Deborah Acheampong, Ebenezer Ankrah, Nubia Adjei and Isaac Botsio were unable to secure podium places despite their efforts.

Ghana now has another chance to add to its medal tally when bantamweight boxer Amadu Mohammed competes in his quarter-final on Tuesday, 28 July. A win will guarantee him at least a bronze medal, making him Ghana’s second medallist at the Games.

Issah’s silver medal marks an important moment for Team Ghana and showcases the growing strength of the country’s para-athletes on the international stage.
