Bawumia Thanks Otumfuo Over Victory

FORMER VICE President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has expressed his appreciation and thanks to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He said the unflinching support, wise counsel, and encouragement of Otumfuo helped him to be elected as 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Dr. Bawumia, but for the counsel of the wise King, he would not reach his current political position, therefore he is eternally grateful to the Asante Monarch.

The Bawumia Ashanti Regional Campaign Team, led by Dr Kwame Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase Asokore, sent the information to Otumfuo.

“Otumfuo on Saturday your own son, Alhaji Dr. Bawumia was overwhelmingly elected as the NPP presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

“Your son said your prayers, wise advice and support helped him to win the polls so he has sent us here to inform you about the victory”, Dr. Ayew Afriyie stated.

The occasion was the first Akwasidae Festival of the year 2026 which was held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, on Sunday.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie continued that Dr. Bawumia was aware that Otumfuo would travel abroad this week “so he will personally come here to thank you upon your return”.

He said Dr. Bawumia also asked him to, respectfully, ask for the Asantehene’s blessings and fervent prayers for the NPP in this new year and the years ahead.

In attendance at the Akwasidae festival included top personalities, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 polls.

Significantly, the traditional ceremony was used to showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Asante kingdom, which dates back to over four centuries.
