Bench warrant for NPP’s KOKA

The law is closing in on New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, after an Accra Circuit Court ordered his immediate arrest for failing to appear before it.

The marketer-turned-politician was expected to face charges of threat of death and publication of false news but failed to show up when his case was called.

He is alleged to have threatened to kill staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, prosecuting, told the court that KOKA had been duly notified of the hearing but deliberately stayed away, describing his conduct as disrespectful to the court’s authority.

The judge subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest and adjourned the case to August 25, 2026.

Death Threat Claims

According to the prosecution, the complainants are officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Police say KOKA was invited for questioning on July 14, 2026, over a viral social media video in which he allegedly threatened the lives of EOCO personnel.

Investigators told the court that in a video recorded on May 29, 2026, the accused allegedly declared: “We know the officers’ houses, we know where they stay, and we will kill you.”

False Presidency Claim

The prosecution further alleged that on July 13, 2026, KOKA appeared in another video claiming there was “an order from above, the Presidency,” directing that no food should be taken to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who was then being held by EOCO to assist with investigations.

Prosecutors insist the claim was completely false and was intended to mislead the public, incite a breach of the peace and undermine EOCO officers in the lawful discharge of their duties.

The court also heard that after the video surfaced, the driver of EOCO’s Executive Director was allegedly chased by about 20 unidentified motorbike riders, who were suspected of planning to attack him.

The prosecution said the videos created fear and anxiety among EOCO officers as they carried out their official duties.

KOKA was later arrested and, according to the prosecution, admitted the offences in his caution statement during police investigations.

With the court now issuing a bench warrant, police are expected to move in and arrest the outspoken NPP communicator to compel his appearance before the court.
