Outgoing President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has urged the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to boldly pursue the bid for the 2028 Commonwealth Youth Games.
He believes this move is necessary to prevent the potential deterioration of the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The facility, which was completed in 2024 for the African Games, has not hosted any major sporting event since its completion. Ben Nunoo Mensah warns that without regular use, the facility could fall into disrepair.
In an exclusive interview with JoySports, on April 6th, 2025, he emphasized, “If we don’t take advantage of the facility at Borteyman and ensure it’s used for at least one tournament every three months, it will deteriorate quickly.”
He added that Ghana has the necessary infrastructure to successfully host the Commonwealth Youth Games.
“We have the hotels, a reliable transport system, and sufficient facilities. I would urge the Sports Minister to be bold and push for Ghana to host the next Commonwealth Youth Games,” he stated.
Ben believes that hosting such an event would not only preserve the facility but also showcase Ghana’s capabilities in organizing international sporting events.
