Black Stars Jersey Named The Best for 2026 World Cup

Ghana’s Black Stars jersey has been ranked as the best among all 48 teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup by an international media outlet, The New York Times.

The American newspaper praised the design of Ghana’s white jersey, highlighting its unique appearance and cultural inspiration. According to the report, the shirt stood out from those of the other teams because of its creativity and striking design.

The New York Times particularly admired the colourful spider-web pattern featured on the jersey. The design is inspired by kente, Ghana’s famous hand-woven textile, which is deeply rooted in the country’s culture and traditions.

“Wow. In general, I’m not wild about Puma’s designs this year because they don’t seem massively interesting, but that’s absolutely not an accusation you can level against this one. It looks like a gigantic, multi-coloured spider’s web, because that’s exactly what it is,” part of the New York Times article read.

The publication further explained the cultural significance behind the design.

“The design is inspired by kente, a traditional Ghanaian hand-woven textile, which apparently originated from weavers trying to replicate the patterns of a spider called Anansi from their ancient folklore. Even if you don’t buy any of that… well, just look at it,” the article noted.

The indigenous kente-inspired elements and hand-woven textile patterns helped the jersey stand out and secure the number one position in the rankings.

The recognition comes as a major compliment for the Black Stars’ kit, especially after some Ghanaians criticised the design when it was first unveiled.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada and is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026.

Ghana will compete in Group L, where the Black Stars will face England, Croatia and Panama as they seek to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.
