Black Stars Technical Advisor Calls for Unity

The newly appointed Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, Winfried Schafer, has called for unity within Ghana’s national team ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Schafer emphasized the need for teamwork, urging players to put aside their differences and work towards a shared goal.

With Ghana currently sitting second in Group I with nine points, the upcoming matches in the March international window will be decisive in their quest for World Cup qualification.

Schafer, speaking in his first interview with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), underscored the team’s determination to secure a spot at the 2026 tournament.

Ghana’s recent struggles, including their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades, have shaken confidence in the squad. However, Schafer believes the Black Stars can rise above the setbacks with the right mindset and collective effort.

“It’s not about individual brilliance; it’s about collective effort,” Schafer stated.

“The best teams, not the best players, win matches. We must instill pride in wearing the Ghanaian jersey and create an environment that motivates the players to perform at their best. Together, we can achieve greatness and book our ticket to the United States,” he added.

Ghana’s campaign for back-to-back World Cup appearances comes with significant challenges. They are currently level on points with Group I leaders Comoros, making the upcoming fixtures crucial for their qualification hopes. Schafer remains optimistic, asserting that the team must adopt a winning mentality.

“We must approach the next two matches with confidence. The players must feel proud and motivated to represent Ghana. When they return to their clubs, they should be fit and energized. Our goal is to ensure they feel good about coming to play for Ghana and that their experience is positive. If we achieve that, we can take a big step towards qualifying for the World Cup,” he insisted.

Schafer’s arrival has brought new hope to the Black Stars’ camp. With the 2026 World Cup happening in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Ghana has a great chance to prove themselves again on the world stage.
