Chiefs Fine ‘Cursing’ NPP Members 12 Sheep

The Juaben Traditional Council has slapped a fine of 12 sheep on four members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Juaben Constituency, Ashanti region.

The under-fire members of the ruling political party were found guilty by the council for invoking curses on their party leaders in a dreaded river deity in the area, Asuo Abena.

The invocation of curses is seen as a taboo in Asanteman, so Council placed the 12 sheep fine on the NPP members to serve as a deterrent to others.

Ransford Osei, NPP Polling Station Executive at Juaben Anglican, who is among the four members that were fined by the chiefs, said he has regretted his actions.

According to him, he and his group have admitted before the traditional council that indeed they erred by invoking curses in the sacred river goddess in the community.

Ransford Osei, who was speaking on the radio on Tuesday, said the four guilty persons have accepted to pay the fine, disclosing that two sheep have been provided already.

He said the remaining sheep would be provided by him and his group in the coming days to enable the traditional leaders to carry out their sacrifices to reverse the curse.

“The sheep would be distributed to the chiefs in the various towns in the Juaben Traditional Council to perform sacrifices to reverse the curse”, Ransford Osei noted.

Meanwhile, the NPP is reported to have suspended Ransford Osei and three other members for openly cursing their party leaders in a river at Asante Juaben recently.

The duration of the suspension was not immediately known to the paper, but party sources have stated that they would stay away from the party for some months.
