The Police has arrested 43-year old Kojo Annan for stealing a Samsung phone at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel, Roman Catholic Church at Airport West Residential Area.

The suspect, who is on the wanted list of the Korle-Bu and Airport Police stations, is noted for stealing from Churches within Accra and its environs.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, ASP Efia Tenge, the Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police, said the suspect currently in police detention was arrested by the Airport Police when he was captured on CCTV cameras on December 31 during the night mass at the Church.

She said the suspect had earlier stolen a Samsung mobile phone belonging to a church member during the morning mass, which was captured on the CCTV footage.

ASP Tenge said the suspect went there again during the 31st night mass, and with the assistance of Airport Police Patrol Team he was arrested.

She said a search conducted in his room saw iPad, several passports belonging to different people, iPhone, driver’s license, several credit and ATM cards, ladies purse, three car keys and several business cards.

She said information gathered by the Police revealed that the suspect bears different names including Kojo Smith, and Sammy.

The suspect is in police custody at the Airport Police station for further investigations while the items believed to have been stolen were retained for identification by the public.

At the Teshie District Police station, Detective Sergeant George Addo, the Officer in-charge, Criminal Investigations Department, said their outfit had not recorded any criminal activities during the Christmas festivities.

He said this was possible because of the effective measures put in place by the Police authorities prior to the festivities.

Detective Sergeant Addo said a Police Patrol team were deployed at vantage points across the country to protect the citizenry, property and ensure peace and order.

According to the Officer, most criminal cases happened after festive seasons, and that their personnel were on guard to monitor situations on the ground and arrest any persons caught stealing or engaging in any criminal activities.
