CLOGSAG Sued Over Unfair Suspension

Rev Isaac Asante Wiafe, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has filed a suit at an Accra High Court against the association for alleged unfair suspension.

According to Rev Wiafe, the National Executive Committee of the association did not treat him fairly in their decision to suspend him, claiming the action was to victimise him and use unfair schemes to eliminate him from the upcoming elections later on in the year.

The plaintiff stated that per the letter from the National Executive dated January 31, 2018, and captioned “Suspension as a Member of CLOGSAG” Rev Wiafe alleged that treason was levelled against him for which reason he was suspended.

The plaintiff further stated that an earlier letter allegedly suspending him was written two days before the alleged suspension.

He explained that the suspension letter was written on December 11, 2017 whilst the meeting which was purported to have been held was around the time the National Executive Council was holding its annual budgetary meeting in Bolgatanga for which, he, Rev Wiafe was earlier invited.

He indicated that, until the December 11, 2017, suspension he was performing his mandate as the Chairman enshrined in the CLOGSAG constitution.

The plaintiff in his writ dated February 16, 2018 is seeking a declaration that the purported decision of the Executive Committee should be dismissed as void or nullity.

The plaintiff is also asking the court to re-instate him to his former position as the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Association and award damages against the defendant for the loss of reputation suffered.

Rev Wiafe is further seeking the order of the Court for the association to pay his allowances in arrears as well as the payment of GH$4,000 being the cost of transport and hotel expenses to Bolgatanga in 2017, and interest on the allowances including any other cost.

According to Rev Wiafe as the Regional Chairman, he had a four-year mandate which would come to an end by December 2018
