During the commissioning of the Damang Gold Mine, it was heartwarming to hear Mr Ibrahim Mahama recount the role of the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo under whose tenure the initial approval to take control of the mine was obtained.
Indeed, it is a testament to the fact that government is a continuum regardless of which party is in power.
The assumption of control of the Damang Gold Mine by Engineers and Planners, a Ghanaian-owned enterprise, reflects the capabilities of Ghanaian businesses and should be commended by all Ghanaians.
Gold, has from time immemorial, been the bedrock of the Ghanaian economy. Thus, issues concerning gold should be viewed through the lens of national development and should not be politicized.
Indeed, it is a great achievement for Engineers and Planners under the leadership of Mr Ibrahim Mahama to have achieved this feat, and to bring finality to a process which commenced over two decades ago.
I commend Mr Ibrahim Mahama and Engineers and Planners for this daring move to take control of this precious mineral which has far-reaching impact on our country.
