Dear Ife – Live At British Council

As conversations around mental health become ever more urgent and essential, Ghanaian poet and curator Mr. Poetivist — under Jinn Records and with the support of the British Council Ghana — presents Dear Ife, a multidisciplinary performance that fuses artistic expression with mental health advocacy.

Through symbolic poetry and immersive folk soundscapes, this poetry performance transforms personal loss into a room of collective reflection.

Set to take the stage at the British Council on May 10, 2025, Dear Ife, within the context of African storytelling and creative arts, is a stirring exploration of grief, mental health, family trauma, and emotional resilience.

“Dear Ife is beyond a performance,” says Mr. Poetivist. “…this is a theatre birthed from the memories of a brother figure who lost his life to suicide. We aim to create a meaningful space where people feel seen, heard, and supported in their experiences of grief and personal loss.”

The production has previously captivated audiences across three cultural venues, with notable performances at the e-Ananse Library in Accra, Ghana, The Rose Hill in Brighton, United Kingdom, and the Symbiosis Place in Lagos, Nigeria.

At every venue, Dear Ife has ignited powerful conversations and left a lasting emotional impact on audiences. Seamlessly blending poetry with theatrical performance, the production draws viewers into an intimate journey of healing, vulnerability, and reflection—harnessing the transformative power of art to spark meaningful dialogue around mental well-being.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Accra performance, the team behind Dear Ife is calling cultural platforms to partner in amplifying its impact. By supporting this initiative, stakeholders will help bring critical conversations around mental well-being into the spotlight — right where they belong.

Dear Ife is supported by the British Council Ghana and will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Council’s premises, located at 11 Liberia Road.
