Eric Opoku Renders Account of Stewardship To Constituents

Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating development across the constituency, unveiling a series of infrastructure, health, education and road projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

Addressing constituents at Sankore during a constituency accountability forum, the Minister said the gathering formed part of his commitment to transparent leadership and regular engagement with the people who entrusted him with the mandate to represent them in Parliament.

Mr. Opoku used the occasion to render an account of his stewardship, highlighting key achievements over the years as well as projects currently underway under the new administration.

He stressed that accountability remains a fundamental pillar of democratic governance, adding that it was important for elected leaders to periodically update their constituents on the progress of development initiatives and government interventions.

A major highlight of his address was the planned completion of the long-awaited Sankore Transportation Terminal.

According to the Minister, the facility will undergo structural and architectural modifications to improve accessibility and enhance the movement of commuters, commercial drivers and traders who rely on the terminal for daily business activities.

He explained that once completed, the modern transport terminal is expected to ease congestion, improve safety and strengthen commercial activities within Sankore and neighbouring communities.

Road infrastructure also featured prominently in his presentation.

Mr. Opoku announced that approximately five kilometres of inner-town roads will be constructed in Sankore to improve transportation and facilitate quicker emergency response by security agencies and health personnel.

He noted that the road project would not only improve mobility but also support local businesses and enhance access to schools, health facilities and markets.

Residents of Kwapong and Nobekaw, he disclosed, will equally benefit from ongoing infrastructure improvements.

Under the programme, about three kilometres of roads will be constructed within Kwapong, while roads in Nobekaw will undergo major rehabilitation to improve durability, reduce travel time and facilitate easier movement for residents.

The health sector, according to the Minister, has also received a significant boost with the donation of six brand-new, ultra-modern pickup vehicles to selected health facilities and the District Health Directorate.

He explained that the vehicles are intended to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve supervision of health services and enhance emergency response, particularly in efforts to reduce preventable maternal deaths and other critical medical emergencies.

Mr. Opoku further announced that the Kwapong Nursing Training College, established during his tenure as Bono Regional Minister, will soon receive a modern dining hall capable of accommodating more than 1,500 students.

The facility, he said, will be equipped with modern amenities to improve students’ welfare and support the institution’s expanding academic activities.

Education remains another priority area under his development agenda.

The Minister revealed that an abandoned six-unit classroom block at Sankore Methodist Primary School will be reconstructed and completed to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

He added that the Sankore L’A and L’B school blocks will also undergo extensive renovation to improve classroom conditions and create a better learning atmosphere for pupils and teachers.

On access to electricity, Mr. Opoku disclosed that plans are far advanced to extend power supply to newly developing communities and unserved areas across the constituency.

He said expanding electricity coverage would stimulate economic activities, improve security and support the growth of businesses in emerging communities.

Beyond infrastructure development, the Member of Parliament called on residents to preserve the peace and unity that have long characterised Asunafo South.

He urged traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents to work together in the interest of the constituency’s development, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony.

Mr. Opoku assured constituents that the projects announced represent only a portion of a broader development agenda being pursued to improve livelihoods and expand opportunities across Asunafo South.

He pledged to continue working closely with government agencies, development partners and local stakeholders to ensure the timely execution of the projects and to attract additional investments to the constituency.
