Female Students Lead Agogo State SHS Riots

IT HAS emerged that the rig-leaders in Sunday’s riots at the Agogo State College Senior High School that saw the vandalisation of many properties on campus, were female students of the school.

Out of 22 rioters arrested by the police, 18 of them were female students of the school. They have since been given a police enquiry bail, the paper is aware.

The rioters on Sunday evening caused massive destruction to several properties on campus because of intermittent water and electricity supply to the school.

The Asante Akyem North District Education Director, Ernest Kwadwo Afari, who confirmed the disheartening incident, disclosed that the students destroyed all the plumbing installations on campus.

He said the street lights in the school were also destroyed by the angry students, thereby plunging the entire campus into total darkness.

Kwadwo Afari noted that, with the absence of light on campus, the stakeholders, including the security agencies, decided that the school be closed down until Saturday, by which time the concerns of the students would have been addressed.

According to him, the 18 females and 4 male students, who were arrested as a result of the riots, have been granted bail, adding that the police had started patrolling the school since the incident occurred.
