BLAY DIDNT BUY VOTES-EFFUTU MP

Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has been criticized heavy in the media for what many term as bad influence towards election.

Prior to NPP’s general delegates Conference in Koforidua, Mr Freddie Blay who was contesting for the Chairmanship position of the party managed to secure 275 buses for each constituency which many term it as vote buying.

Minority in Parliament, Togbe Afede, and many others have called for special investigation into the matter but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Affenyo-Markin has debunked the assertion that the newly elected NPP Chairman Freddie Blay won through vote buying.

Speaking on Point of View on Citi TV, he said such allegations are baseless and they are just attempts to smear the name of the chairman.

According to the Effutu MP, the plenty accusations in the media is nothing to write home about. He thinks otherwise. Explaining his position further, he said,

“I am going into an election and the expectation of the party executives in the constituency is that we need to engage in party activities.
We need to go to villages and canvas votes or go and engage in party activities so we need logistics.”

He added, “And I promise that for these logistics that you need, I will put in place support systems to provide you with those logistics for party work. How does that become vote-buying within the context of the kind of argument that you are raising?”

Mr Afenyo Markin believes, Freddie Blay won the election because party delegates wanted him and not otherwise. Indicating further that, party faithful are above what is term is vote buying.
