Ghana Aids Commission Begs For Cash

The Ghana Aids Commission has appealed to corporate Ghana and the general public to support them with funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Director-General of Ghana AIDS Commission, Kyeremeh Atuahene, speaking to the press after appearing before the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said its activities have been adversely affected due to the lack of funds.

According to him, donor support towards the fight has significantly reduced, hence the need to find a sustainable funding plan.

He disclosed the commission will soon launch the national HIV/AIDS fund to raise funds domestically in the fight against the disease.

“Very soon we are going to put out the necessary information for people to donate, in fact people can start donating now, anybody who wants to donate, please do because we have to take care of people living with HIV, buy the medicines ”, he said.

Mr Atuahene said the commission has maintained the prevalence rate at 1.7% and new infections has reduced by 5% between 2016-2019.
