Ghana Skate has clinched a historic berth at the inaugural International Francophonie Skate Youth Championship in Cotonou, Benin.
The competition, which featured some top skating talents across the continent, serves as a key preparatory event ahead of the Youth Olympic Games later this year.
Ghana’s delegation, led by Mr. Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe, President of Ghana Skate, alongside Mr. Prosper Ashiquaye Doku, the General Secretary; Mr. Joshua Odamtten, Commission Chairman for Skateboarding in Ghana with athletes Cornelius and Tracy who are eyeing for a podium finish.
The Championship also offers skaters a valuable platform to gain international exposure, enhance their competitive experience, and engage with peers and stakeholders within the global skateboarding community.
Mr. Gameli Kportufe in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency described the team’s participation as a steppingstone towards greater achievements in the future.
“We are immensely proud of Cornelius and Tracy for the efforts and hard work they have put into representing our country with their dedication to skateboarding. Their participation is expected to inspire a new generation of young Ghanaians to embrace skateboarding and contribute to the sport’s continued growth,” he added.
He further extended appreciation to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, National Sports Authority and various stakeholders for supporting the team’s participation.
In line with efforts to make the competition a success, a coaching and officiating development programme was held, offering specialized training and certification courses for commission heads, coaches, and technical officials.
