Ghana head coach Otto Addo has cautioned that the Black Stars are not yet assured of a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their impressive 3-0 victory over Madagascar in the qualifiers.
Thomas Partey netted twice, while Mohammed Kudus added another, with captain Jordan Ayew providing all three assists in a dominant performance in Morocco. The victory strengthens Ghana’s position in Group I, but Addo remains cautious.
“We are in a good position to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but this is also dangerous,” Addo said at the post-match press conference.
“My main concern now is keeping our focus because the job is far from finished. If Comoros wins their game, we will only be three points ahead, and there’s still a long way to go. Anyone who thinks we are already through is making a big mistake.”
With several matches remaining, Addo emphasized the importance of staying concentrated and avoiding overconfidence.
“I have witnessed many unexpected things in football, so we must remain focused. I am happy with our progress, but as I said, the job is not done,” he reiterated.
Ghana will now shift attention to the next round of qualifiers in June as they aim to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
