Ghana Moves Up in latest FIFA Rankings

Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, have moved up one place to 76th in the latest FIFA world rankings. Despite the modest climb, they have held steady at 14th on the African continent.

This marks Ghana’s first rise in the global standings since July 2024, when they jumped from 64th to 60th. However, their ranking dipped toward the end of last year due to poor performances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

A home loss to Angola and a draw with Niger in Morocco triggered a significant six-place fall in September. That was followed by another setback in October, after a goalless draw with Sudan and a 2-0 defeat in the return leg.

Under head coach Otto Addo, the team closed 2024 ranked 77th, well below their 61st position in November 2023. But a promising start to 2025 has sparked hope. Back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers have helped Ghana regain some footing.

These victories also saw them move above Israel, who dropped two places. Although Ghana remains 14th in Africa, Addo will aim to build on this progress in future matches.

Ghana’s current position is still close to their all-time low of 89th, reminding fans and players alike that consistent performance is key.
