Ghana U20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, has admitted that the upcoming clash against the Central African Republic (CAR) will be tough, but insists his team is prepared for the challenge.
Speaking ahead of the Black Satellites’ final Group C match in the ongoing 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt, Coach Ofei said, “We know the game against the Central African Republic will be difficult. But just like today, we’ll fight, prepare well, and give our best.”
Ghana revived their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage with a determined 1-0 win over defending champions Senegal on Monday evening. The victory, powered by Emmanuel Mensah’s first-half goal, came after a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening match.
With four points from two games, the Black Satellites now sit second in Group C. A win against CAR on May 8 could secure their spot in the next round and move them a step closer to their ultimate target—the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Qatar.
“Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus. Each match and positive result take us a step closer,” Ofei stressed.
Coach Ofei also used the opportunity to thank Ghanaians for their continued support throughout the tournament. “We want to thank all the fans and Ghanaians back home. Your support means everything to us , we feel it all the way out here,” he said in a post-match interview.
