Three people died on the spot with three others on arrival at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, when a sprinter bus in which they were travelling from Cape Coast crashed with a Toyota Saloon car coming from opposite direction at Gomoa Mpota, near Winneba-Junction on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the sprinter bus attempted to overtake a vehicle and busted a tyre in the process. The driver of the Toyota saloon car, who also tried to dodge a head on collision, somersaulted three times and landed on top of the roof of the sprinter bus.

It took some time for the personnel from Winneba Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire service to remove the Toyota saloon car from the roof of the top of the sprinter bus, before they could get both the injured and the dead out of the cars.

However, both drivers of the Sprinter bus and Toyota saloon car survived the gory accident that caused traffic jam for over two hours on Winneba- Junction/ Kasoa Highway.

Dr Douglas Amponsah of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital who was on duty at the time, told Journalists that three persons were brought in dead and three others died on arrival at the Hospital.

He said some of the injured persons have been admitted at the Trauma Hospital, whilst others have been sent to the Winneba Municipal Government Hospital.

Dr Amponsah said a girl who is about three years-old, got serious of leg fracture during the accident would be referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, for further treatment since the Trauma Hospital cannot handle that situation.

He said the nurses and doctors who were on duty at the time of the accident worked round the clock to safeguard any further loss of live.

A Spokesperson of the MTTD in Winneba, who decided not to disclose his name, told Journalists that the bodies of the six dead persons have been deposited in the morgue at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, awaiting identification and collection by their relatives.
