‘Grab your good man even if he’s married’ – Panelist advice sparks backlash

A panelist on Joy Prime’s ‘Talk Your Shhh’ podcast has come under heavy criticism after suggesting that women should consider dating married men if they believe they have found a “good man.”

Vera made the controversial remarks during a discussion about the existence and qualities of good men, sparking strong reactions from viewers and social media users.

The discussion, which centred on the question, “What is your definition of a good man, and do they exist?”, quickly became a subject of debate after Vera shared her views on relationships with married men.

According to her, some women may come across only one “good man” in their lifetime. She argued that if such a man is already married, the woman should not necessarily walk away from the relationship.

“There is a saying that opportunity comes but once, so when certain opportunities come at your door, grab it with your whole heart. Some women are there, we are destined to meet one good man in our entire life, some too will be fortunate to meet countless of good men.

So if for you your good man if a married man, and you feel at that point in life you need help, and you have been praying to God to send help. Fortunately, yours came through a married man grab it but be wise. Build yourself whiles you are in that relationship”, she advised.

Vera further suggested that being involved with a married man could be less stressful for some women because they could receive financial support while concentrating on improving their own lives.

Her comments have drawn criticism from several Ghanaians, who accused the programme of presenting infidelity as an acceptable or practical relationship choice.

The fact that the remarks were made on a television platform has also intensified the criticism, with some viewers questioning the kind of influence such discussions could have on the public.

Actress and socialite Efia Odo was among those who reacted to the controversy.

In a post on X, she said, “You can tell when someone is speaking from experience. I see why they say women are their worst enemies cause why would you give such an advice?” She also questioned why such advice should be given a platform on national television.

Musician Moliy also shared her reaction, saying, “In this life there are baddies and there are dummies” in response to the comments.

The controversy has renewed debate over the role of television programmes in discussions about relationships, marriage and family values.

While some viewers believe panel shows should allow guests to express different opinions, others argue that broadcasters should provide context and challenge views that could encourage harmful behaviour.
