IGP promotes Police officer who rescued victims in Aboso fire

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector in recognition of his bravery and efforts to save lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

The fire broke out on Wednesday, August 26, at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, where several shops were engulfed in flames, resulting in significant damage to property.

Inspector Atubra was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene and immediately moved to assist people trapped within the affected area as the fire spread.

He helped evacuate people from the danger zone and guided them to safety, despite the risks posed by the fire.

His swift response was credited with helping to prevent further loss of life as he prioritised the evacuation of people caught in the affected area.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly commended the officer for his courage and prompt intervention during the emergency.

His conduct subsequently led to a recommendation for his promotion in recognition of his exemplary performance and commitment to protecting lives and property.

The IGP approved the recommendation, elevating Inspector Atubra to the rank of Chief Inspector.

The fire at the Aboso Main Lorry Station affected several shops and caused significant property damage.
