IGP Slammed Over High Crime

THE INSPECTOR General of Police (IGP,) David Asante Appeatu, has been blamed over the poor security situation in the country. A prominent Ghanaian is therefore calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to as a matter of urgency, fire him in the national interest.

This call was made by a popular Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng, who described the security situation in the country as ‘shaky’.

“I blame the IGP for being the cause of the security challenges that are gradually getting out of hand in the country and has brought fear into the people.

“He is the IGP and so he is supposed to inspire his men to handle the security situation properly, but unfortunately, that is not what he is doing, currently.

“This IGP seemed not to be on top of the security situation and that has paved way for violent crimes to happen in the country on a daily basis, now”, he said.

Dr. Boateng also did not side with those who believe the harsh economic situation in the country has led to the increase of incidents of crime.

“There were economic challenges in the country during the previous administration but the crime rate was not as high as we are recording now.

“This clearly shows that those who were heading the Ghana Police Service at the time were on top of the security situation, but this IGP is not”, he said.

The lecturer, who was speaking on Nhyira FM, said President Akufo-Addo needs to decide whether to maintain or sack the IGP”.
