Investigate Nana Over Gh¢50 Billion Cash

The largest opposition political party in the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for an immediate investigation of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over a corruption allegation.

This follows claims by Lawyer Obiri Boahen, Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), that Ghana’s seat of government, the Flagstaff House, released GH¢50 billion to organize the NPP’s National Conference held in Cape Coast in 2017.

According to the NDC, Lawyer Boahen’s claim is a serious corruption issue, which should not be swept under the carpet.

Koku Anyidoho, the NDC deputy General Secretary, has stated that the president needs to be investigated and if he is found culpable of any wrongdoing, the laws of the state should deal with him since nobody is above the law.

He hinted that the NDC intends to write to the appropriate security and anti-corruption agencies in the country so that they would investigate President Akufo-Addo for the truth to prevail.

He noted that considering the severe hardship in the country, it is not proper for the president to channel scanty state resources to sponsor his political party’s activities.

Koku, who spoke on Nhyira FM, described the NPP administration as incompetent and an uncaring government; and opined that President Akufo-Addo doesn’t have the genuine desire to fight corruption.

“President Akufo-Addo’s office has, surprisingly, kept mute since Lawyer Obiri said his (president’s) office sanctioned for such a huge amount of state money to be used to sponsor NPPs conference at Cape Coast last year”.

He said President Akufo-Addo’s weird silence is a clear indication that the NPP government did not care about the severe hardship currently confronting a sizeable number of the citizenry.

Anyidoho said the unsolicited comments have clearly put President Akufo-Addo in the bad light, with regards to his commitment to fighting corruption in the country.
