Ipswich Lead Race for Ghana Winger Abdul Fatawu

Ipswich Town are close to completing the signing of Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City after the two clubs reportedly reached a verbal agreement for a £20 million transfer.

Reports from the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star indicate that talks between the clubs have moved quickly, with Leicester expected to complete the deal before Ipswich travel to Spain for their pre-season training camp next week.

Ipswich first saw an offer rejected on Friday, but the Championship club continued negotiations and have now reportedly agreed a fee for the 32-cap Ghana international.

The 22-year-old had attracted interest from several clubs, including Premier League side Everton, where reports claimed he had agreed personal terms. West Ham United and Turkish club Beşiktaş were also reportedly interested in signing the winger.

However, Ipswich now appear to have secured the services of Fatawu, who is expected to add more attacking strength to Kieran McKenna’s squad ahead of the new season.

Fatawu joined Leicester City from Sporting CP on loan in 2023 before making the move permanent after the Foxes gained promotion to the Premier League.

Since then, he has become an important player for Ghana and has impressed with his pace, creativity and attacking ability. If the transfer is completed, Fatawu will be hoping to make a strong start at Portman Road and continue his development in English football.
