CD Lugo forward Jerry Afriyie has expressed his willingness to join the Black Stars for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March.
Afriyie made his debut for the Black Stars in Ghana’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger in November. At the time, he played for Thoughts FC and became the first-ever player from Ghana’s second division to earn a national team call-up.
Seizing the opportunity, Afriyie made an instant impact by scoring in his brief appearance. His performance caught the attention of many, adding to his growing reputation. His rise has been remarkable, playing a key role in Ghana’s gold medal win at the 2023 African Games.
Afriyie was also instrumental in helping Ghana qualify for the U-20 AFCON. His outstanding performances saw him named Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer.
Currently on loan at CD Lugo from his parent club, Al Qadisiyah, Afriyie has scored twice this season.
Speaking to 3Sports about the possibility of representing the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifiers, Afriyie responded with confidence.
“I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there are more [goals] on the way coming.”
Ghana sits second in Group I with nine points and remains on track to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign.
