Jubail Hospital Clocks 25

Jubail Specialist Hospital at Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region, over the weekend launched its 25th anniversary celebrations that would involve a yearlong of activities all under the theme ‘‘enhancing wellbeing through innovations in healthcare.’

Dr. Kofi Amaniampong, founder of the hospital, in his address at the anniversary launch said the medical outfit offers both General medicine services and various specialist services and that the mission is to continue to create a caring environment that supports the patient through innovations in the field of general health and reproductive technology and a commitment to be responsible and accountable to the patient.

He recounted the formation of the facility: “the dream to set up a private health facility was conceived in 1974; gracefully, 19years down the line, the land we see this Jubail Hospital structure on was acquired.”

Dr. Amaniampong continued: “We completed the initial building of the hospital in 1993 with just two consulting rooms, three general wards and two side wards, an OPD space and a theatre

“On September25th, 1996, Jubail, a name inspired by a city in Saudi Arabia which also means ‘On the hill’ was opened to public with a focus on providing general services, obstetrics and gynecology. Ten years on in 2006, an assisted reproductive treatment and gynecologic laparoscopic surgery center was built to help with child bearing related cases.

“Presently, we boast of having done about 350 in-vitro fertilizations (IVFs) and over 2500 natural births.”  – Dr. Amaniampong added.

Board Chairman of Jubail Specialist Hospital, His Lordship Justice Alex Poku-Acheampong; an Appeals Court Judge, who also served as Ghana’s Judiciary Secretary and High Court Judge said it is of great pleasure to be a part of the story of the hospital, as not many would find the need of creating board members to help in managing the activities of their self-founded organizations. It is particularly significant to congratulate all staff of the hospital as we celebrate our 25 years of existence and provision of quality healthcare.”

Community has been key to Jubail’s values since the very beginning. Influencing and supporting the surrounding community and other agencies and partners within the health space in whatever small way possible has always been important to the Board and Management of the hospital who as part of the day’s activities presented a computer, printer and other office equipment to the Tema West Municipal Health Directorate and a 1000-liter Water Tank to the Sakumono Village Community.

Right Reverend Ofoe Wright of the Methodist Church of Ghana led the official launch declaration in the presence of the Board, Media, representatives from the surrounding communities, government officials, media and staff of the hospital. The hospital hopes to outdoor a full functioning modern Pediatrics Unit by end of year as part of the anniversary celebrations.
