“Kasoa boys introduced me to drugs”- Funny Face

Ghanaian comedian and actor Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, has revealed that he once turned to drugs while battling depression after losing custody of his children.

Speaking on Kasapa FM in a recent interview, Funny Face recalled that during the difficult period, some young men in Kasoa introduced him to drugs after telling him that he needed to calm down.

He said when he asked them how he could calm down, they suggested that he take drugs. Funny Face now describes the decision as a bad habit and says the experience has influenced his decision to speak against drug use.

“Kasoa boys introduced me to drugs. They said ‘Uncle this thing that you are going through, you will die, you need to calm down’ and I asked ‘How can I come down?’ and they told me to go and take one roll, which is bad. That is why now I am an advocate against it because whatever you go through, if you add drugs to it, it will become worse,” he said.

Funny Face explained that after taking the drugs, he began to feel different and became very high. Looking back, he believes using drugs during a difficult period only made his situation worse.

The comedian said he now uses his personal experiences to encourage young people to avoid drugs, especially when dealing with emotional or personal challenges.

Funny Face has previously spoken openly about his struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts. He has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

His mental health challenges became particularly difficult following the loss of custody of his children and relationship problems. The situation led to emotional struggles, public outbursts on social media and periods of treatment at the Psychiatric Hospital.

Through his experiences, Funny Face is now encouraging people going through difficult times to seek healthier ways of dealing with their problems instead of turning to drugs. He believes drug use can worsen an already difficult situation and is urging young people to learn from his experience.
