Kisseman Market Project Takes off

The Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive, (MCE) Nii Boye Laryea has cut the sod for the construction of over three hundred and sixty four thousand (GH¢364,000) market complex for Kisseman Community in Accra.

The first phase of the project expected to be completed in four months and part of the blue print of the facelift of development agenda of the Assembly would see the construction of sheds for the over fifty market traders.

The second phase of the project to be constructed by Sky Lynx Haven Investments Limited is also set to give the traders the opportunity to own lockable stalls.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony in Accra, Mr. Laryea stated that the Assembly, created in 2018 is poised to developing a model Municipality in excellence.

He said one of the goals and objectives as an Assembly is to promote local economic development and ensure effective and efficient revenue mobilization.

The Okaikwei North MCE noted “our mission stands to promote community growth and sustainable development by improving effective and efficient management of resources through good governance, community participation, local economic development, improved sanitation and infrastructure development.”

Mr. Laryea further disclosed: “It is against this background that an array of projects have been catalogued in the 2018 – 2021 Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) for the Municipality to be transformed through Development, projects and programmes, this project is not an exception.”

The MCE said the market is funded under the District Assembly Common Fund at an estimated sum not exceeding three hundred and sixty four thousand two hundred and sixty eight Ghana Cedis and twenty Ghana pesewas (GH¢ 364,268.20) for execution in four months.

He said the project will go a long way to promote investment and increase our revenue generation.

Mr. Laryea argued that the project when completed would boost the overall development of the community, provide jobs and help local business adding that “The market would be attrcative to people who hitherto were reluctant to buy from the market”.

While urging the traders to cultivate the culture of maintainance in order to prolong the life span of the structures, the Okaikwei North MCE assured the traders that there would be no job looses when the facility is ready for use.

He explained that the occupnats in the market before its construction would be priotise before new tenanats are engaged.

Fuseni Issah, Memeber of Parliamnet for the Constituency said the market facility would craete jobs for the younth in the communiy.

He said Nana Akufo Addo’s One District One Facstory (1D1F) initiatuve would be a fruitless venture without ready markets to sell the products from the factories.

Mr. Issah notedd that ready markets was crutial to the sustianability of the programme and urged all to assit in the contruction of the market.
