Kojo Yankah Frowns On Stage-Managed Meet the Press Series

Mr. Kojo Yankah, former Editor of the Daily Graphic, has charged government to be more transparent in its dealings with the media.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, the former Agona East MP stressed that government stands to benefit if it is transparent in its dealings with the media, adding that: “If the government lies, the people would find out anyway.”

“Let every Ministry be free to provide information when they want to and when they have to. Go to the regions, some Ministers don’t talk because they fear it will counter the sector minister…Why should it be so,” he quizzed.

On his impression with media freedom under the present government, the former Ashanti regional minister said for a personality like Akufo-Addo, who had advocated media freedom, he expects his administration to do better.

He called on President Akufo-Addo “ to demonstrate more openness to what’s happening” in his administration.

He cited the deference of the implementation of the Right to Information Act as a clear indication that the state machinery is not yet ready to implement the RTI.
