Kumasi Asante Kotoko have officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, ending his second spell with the club after a disappointing run in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
The decision was announced by the club on Saturday, following a three-game winless streak, which included a 2-0 loss to Nations FC on Matchday 28. The defeat appears to have been the tipping point for Kotoko, who had high expectations when Ogum was reappointed in July 2023.
Ogum previously led the Porcupine Warriors to league victory in the 2021/22 season, and fans hoped he could replicate that success. However, the team’s recent form has seen them slip behind in the title race, currently trailing leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points, with just six games remaining.
In a statement, the club said:
“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.”
The club also thanked Ogum for his efforts and urged supporters to stay calm during the transition.
“We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course,” they stated.
