Renowned Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has officially called out Ghanaian television stations for airing her films without permission, joining fellow Nigerian filmmakers Ruth Kadiri and Omoni Oboli in a stand against widespread intellectual property violations by Ghanaian media.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Ademoye voiced her frustration over the continued unauthorized use of her work.
She revealed that she had initially tried to resolve the issue diplomatically, offering to discuss licensing terms with the broadcasters.
However, after repeated violations, she has decided to end all talks, firmly stating, “Don’t show my movies. I haven’t given you permission.”
Reports suggest that Ghana’s Daily TV is one of the stations allegedly airing Ademoye’s films without proper licensing. The actress has made it clear that if the infringements continue, she will escalate the matter through legal channels.
Her concerns also extend to digital platforms, particularly YouTube channels such as Ayodeji Films, Nolly Specials, and Nollynew Series, which she claims use her film titles and promotional materials to attract viewers, only to display unrelated content.
“Let the battle begin. I will not let anyone profit off my blood, sweat, and sleepless nights.” Ademoye declared, signaling her readiness to take legal action to protect her intellectual property.
This situation underscores the growing tensions within West Africa’s creative industry over content distribution and copyright enforcement.
Experts predict that this dispute could spark wider conversations about creating standardized media licensing frameworks across the ECOWAS region, offering clearer protection for creators’ rights.
