Kristo Asafo Claims Adwoa Safo ‘Played Victim’ After Damaging Church Property

The leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has hit back at what it describes as “false allegations” surrounding a violent incident at its Kwabenya property on Sunday, accusing former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo of “playing the victim” after she forcefully rammed her vehicle into the church’s gates.

In a strongly worded statement issued on the evening of Sunday, June 21, 2026, on the church’s official Faceboob page, the church leadership offered a drastically different account of the events that left Adwoa Safo injured and sparked widespread public outrage.

According to the church, the incident occurred after a lawful church event had been held at the Akofena Palace premises. Sarah Adwoa Safo, a daughter of the late founder Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, reportedly arrived at the venue and “forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates of the property.”

The statement alleges that she struck her vehicle against two metallic gates, causing “substantial damage to both structures.”

“Numerous worshippers and invited guests were present within the premises, including individuals seated in close proximity to the entrance,” the statement read. “Had the gates completely collapsed or had the vehicle proceeded beyond the entrance, the safety of attendees could have been gravely endangered.”

The church defended the actions of security personnel on duty, stating that they intervened “to prevent further escalation and to protect persons gathered at the event.” Their actions, the church insisted, were “directed solely toward preserving public safety and preventing injury to attendees.”

In a pointed rebuttal to reports that Adwoa Safo had been shot, the church leadership categorically rejected the claims, accusing the former legislator of attempting to create a false impression.

“We have also become aware of unverified media reports made by certain individuals claiming that she was shot by her brother during the incident with same Adwoa Safo demonstrating a purported victim presentation, an apparent attempt to create a false impression of having sustained a gunshot injury,” the statement said.

The church added: “We categorically reject these allegations as false and misleading. To the best of our knowledge and based on information presently available to us, no such shooting occurred.”

The church called upon the relevant authorities to conduct a “thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident” and urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified social media reports.

“Our organization remains committed to peace, truth, the rule of law, and the safety of all persons who attend our events,” the statement concluded.

The development comes amid escalating tensions surrounding the succession of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, with the church having installed Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I as its new leader on the same day, despite a pending court injunction.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. Ms. Adwoa Safo is reported to be in stable condition receiving medical treatment.
