Kudus Injury a Big Blow for Ghana – Asamoah Gyan

Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed concern over the Black Stars’ tactical strength following the injury withdrawal of key midfielder Mohammed Kudus ahead of the international friendly against Mexico and the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Ghana captain believes Kudus’ absence is a major blow to the national team at a crucial stage of preparations for the tournament. Ghana is expected to face Mexico in an important international friendly as both countries continue to fine-tune their squads before the World Cup begins.

According to Gyan, Kudus has grown into one of the most important players in the Black Stars team due to his influence in midfield and attack. The former striker explained that the Tottenham Hotspur player has a rare ability to move the ball from defence into attacking areas with ease, making him a vital part of Ghana’s style of play.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, Gyan said the technical team now faces a difficult task in replacing the midfielder. He explained that players with Kudus’ qualities are hard to find because of the creativity, energy, and attacking spark he brings to the team.

Despite the setback, Gyan urged head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical staff to remain calm and focus on the depth of the squad. The former Sunderland and Al Ain striker stressed that injuries are part of football and teams must always be ready with strong replacements during major competitions.

Gyan insisted, adding that good replacements are the only way to survive the rigours of major international competitions.

The injury comes at an important moment as Ghana completes preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The Black Stars have been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama in what is expected to be a difficult group.
