Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has indicated that Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus is fit enough to make his first start of the season when Spurs face Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
Kudus has been carefully managed since returning from a long-term injury that ruled him out of Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The midfielder has so far made three appearances as a substitute during the 2026/27 season as Tottenham gradually brought him back to full fitness.
But with a crucial clash against Liverpool ahead, De Zerbi believes Kudus is now ready to take on a bigger role.
“Kudus can start because, in terms of his physical condition, he’s better. But James [Madisson] is not yet,” he said.
The manager also suggested that Kudus could operate in an attacking role, potentially giving Tottenham an important creative spark as they look to turn around their difficult start to the campaign.
“Kudus can play number 10, more offensive. The idea is to use the characteristics of the players in the first eleven.”
Tottenham have endured a frustrating opening to the season, winning only one of their five matches. Their only victory came against Charlton in the EFL Cup Second Round.
With Liverpool standing in their way, Kudus could now have the chance to make a big impact from the start.
