Kwabena Agyapong Finally Sues Wontumi

THE PUBLISHER has sighted a writ of summons which proves that suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has finally, as a last resort, sued the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi after enduring repeated defamatory onslaughts from the latter.

Mr. Agyapong recently made his lawyers to write to Chairman Wontumi to request for a retraction and apology after Wontumi had hopped from one radio station to another to repeat all manner of unsubstantiated and criminally inclined allegations against the suspended General Secretary.

In a surprising response to the letter from Mr. Agyapong’s lawyers, Wontumi   remained adamant and did not only repeat the defamatory and unproven allegations but added salt to injury by daring the offended party leader to go to court.

Among several other threats and bluffs, Wontumi, was heard on several radio stations saying “I will mock Kwabena Agyapong if he fails to send me to court”.

He said: “Go to court, I will face you there with my lawyers. I will not apologize to Kwabena Agyapong for saying he worked against the NPP, which is true”.

“What led to your suspension?”, he asked, adding that Agyapong was suspended by the NPP leadership because of the car he took from the NDC.

“I have a copy of the reasons that the NPP National Council cited before they suspended him from the party so I am ready to face him in court”.

It is curious to note that while Chairman Wontumi continued his verbal onslaughts on the suspended party General Secretary, the party remained mute over the matter and was never heard to have publicly called on the attacker to desist from the repeated defamatory statements.

A former National Treasurer of the party, Madam Gifty Ayeh mostly known as Daavi Ama, is on record as the only person to have publicly pleaded with Kwabena Agyapong to resist the temptation of taking Wontumi to court.

Daavi Ama pleaded that Kwabena should maintain his ‘golden silence’, in the larger interest of the party as it would ne unfortunate to have a party General Secretary in court with a Regional Chairman of same party.

However, despite the pleas from Daavi Ama, Chairman Wontumi continued his no-holds-barred offensive and character assassination on the person of Kwabena Agyapong.
