‘Let peace reign upon Ghana’ – Asantehene to Political leaders

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasised the need for political leaders to make the attainment of peace and unity an utmost priority in the country.

Speaking to dignitaries at the Dwabirem of the Manhyia Palace, to mark his 20th anniversary since ascending the Golden Stool in Kumasi on Sunday, he said, ”political leaders should guide citizens to destiny to a vibrant Ghana for developing peace and harmony.”

According to him, political differences has plunged the relationship between Awomefia of Anlo state, Torgbui Sri III and his kinsmen and said it was time for them not to allow politics to undermine the bond that had existed between the two since 1824.

Otumfuo said it was time to deal all with kinds of rancour, bitterness and violence out of “our political discourse and allow the nation to embrace a new era of peace.”

You’ve shown leadership skills – Nana Addo praises Otumfuo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo speaking at the ceremony praised Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his leadership skills over the last twenty years stating that “you have shown leadership skills to Ghana and the people of the Ashanti Kingdom.”

The President says the leadership being displayed by the Otumfuo since he was enstooled as the Asanthene has not benefitted only the Asante kingdom, but the country as a whole.

“We congratulate the Asantehene on his 20th anniversary celebration. Your contributoionn since you ascended the throne has really revamped the country’s socio-economic development. The unity and peace being enjoyed in Ghana are as a result of your good works. Not too long ago, you led the committee of eminent chiefs to resolve the long-standing dispute in Dagbon. It is for the reason that many have traveled far and near to extend a hearty congratulations to you. We ask for God’s blessing to give you an additional 20 years to your ruling so you continue assisting the country and the people of the Ashanti Kingdom.” he said.
