LIFE LESSONS! Ebo Whyte Reveals Secrets To Achieving Dreams

CEO of Roverman Productions, Uncle Ebo Whyte has given a lecture on the principles of going for your dreams during an interview on an Accra based Joy FM.

On Monday, the 27th of August 2018, Daniel Dadzie, host of the show inquired about the upcoming show “A Crazy Ride” and got served with a motivational piece .

Know that there is always a first time.

“I have done two one man shows in my life. But both were about thirty minutes long, my wife and I put up a two cast show soon after we were married, that also was thirty minutes long. On that occasion, I played four different characters but doing a one man show that will last for two hours on a platform as big as Roverman, this would be my first. There is always a first time, the fact that something has not been done before does not mean it cannot be done. Or the mere fact that you have not done something before doesn’t mean you cannot do it or it cannot be done, or don’t try to do it. Yesterday I got the opportunity to run through the program with some people at Adabraka and it was great. From that experience I say to you there is always a first time. Don’t let the fact that it’s your first time on that agenda stop you”.

Listen to your inner voice.

“If your inner voice tells you to go for it; go for it, at the end of your life you will request the things you did not do more than the things you did do. I have no doubt that this one man show is just what we need for this country. There’s an inner voice that is telling me on and I dare not ignore that voice, we should all learn to listen to our voices because that voice knows what we are capable of. If only we will apply ourselves”.

Expect the doubters but don’t be put off by them; learn to use them.

“I am not put off by doubters, for most of them I know it’s from a place of concern that I will not go out there to disgrace myself so I can understand their concern. But I also know on whom I am depending so the doubters only add fuel to my fire. Anytime someone says you cannot do it, it increases my motivation to do it and blow that persons mind. That should be the attitude whenever you are embarking on your dream”.

Nothing great comes easy.

“For this quarter which is ‘A Crazy Ride’; which is a one man show, I have already gone through four drafts and the last draft alone came to one hundred and fourteen pages. And that is material for over four hours of performance, for this one man show I have a team of seven directing each of them looking at a different aspect of the show. For regular shows rehearsals begin from 6pm on weekdays but with this one man show rehearsals begin on 11am weekdays and weekends as well. The point I’m making is that there is no other secret to a great show or any other great thing for that matter but hard work and determination”.

It’s never too late.

“I have taken for granted that my days on stage is long gone but since I have been working on this one man show I have realized just how much I miss being on stage. This one man show is bringing this back to me and I am discovering that it’s never too late. I know that most of us had dreams when we were younger but I’m discovering that as the years add on we get to the point when we tell ourselves that it’s too late for us. From that point we simply stop dreaming or paying attention to that dream. After the show, everyone would say that if Uncle Ebo can do it, so can I”.

Live to your highest expectation.

“We do not expect much of older people in Ghana I have come to find, my experience is showing me we have various definitions of older people in Ghana. The unfortunate thing about that mindset is everyone gets old, he is a senior citizen of this Country, as a younger person if you are so definitive of older people you help to create the climate that will be definitive for you tomorrow. But no matter how definitive people are of you, push yourself to your highest potential. You owe yourself that”.

Take the right role models for your life.

“At a very young age I decided to take my role models from the bible, at various times I’ve looked up to the likes of Joseph, David and Daniel for inspiration. But as I grow older Caleb’s influence becomes stronger because at age twenty five this man went to Sampson and said give me this mountain. At age twenty five he was not looking at retirement or an easy life, he was eager to go carry the mountain he was promised rather when he was younger. His example encourages me not to back down ever from any challenge I find myself on account of age. At sixty four I’m prepared to take my mountain and I believe that ‘A Crazy Ride’ is only the first step”.
