Entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah has defended the Gomoa Easter Carnival and described criticisms about the event as unfair and disrespectful.
She spoke during a discussion on United Showbiz on UTV on April 12, 2026. According to her, the carnival has helped to promote Gomoa and position it as a new holiday destination for people looking for places to relax during festive seasons.
MC Yaa Yeboah explained that the event has increased the visibility of the area
“This has brought visibility to Gomoa. Today, when someone needs a place to go aside from the usual destinations, this has created a new holiday spot for people to enjoy,” she said.
In her view, this is a major achievement for the organisers and the community.
She strongly criticised people who have questioned the success and relevance of the carnival. She described such comments as an insult, not only to the Member of Parliament who supported the initiative but also to the creative team behind the event.
“The whole brouhaha of people doubting the success of the Gomoa Easter Carnival, that’s an insult. Not just to the honourable Member of Parliament but to the great minds that were behind this beautiful carnival,” she stated.
According to her, the organisers put in a lot of effort to make the carnival successful. She pointed out that the event was put together within a very short time. She revealed that widespread promotion of the carnival only started a few months before it was held.
MC Yaa Yeboah said organising such a large event in less than four months is a big achievement and should be appreciated instead of criticised. She stressed that people often underestimate the hard work and planning that go into creative events.
She also addressed concerns about the impact of the carnival. According to her, anyone who questions what such an event can do for the country does not understand the importance of the creative arts industry.
She explained that events like the Gomoa Easter Carnival help boost tourism, create jobs, and support local businesses. She added that they also give creatives a platform to showcase their talents and contribute to national development.
MC Yaa Yeboah further stated that for a long time, people in the creative arts space have not been taken seriously. She said some leaders used to believe that creatives had little or nothing to offer the country. However, she insisted that this mindset must change. She believes the success of events like the Gomoa Easter Carnival proves that the creative industry plays a key role in Ghana’s growth.
“We’ve actually entertained these talks from people to the extent that, before, some of the leaders thought creative people have nothing to offer. We can’t keep entertaining this,” she added.
She ended by urging the public to support such initiatives instead of criticising them, adding that recognising the value of creative efforts will help the industry grow stronger and benefit the country as a whole.
