MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) has announced a subscription price adjustment effective April 1, 2025, reflecting an average increase of 15 percent across all subscriber packages.
DSTV increased prices twice in 2024, which infuriated subscribers.
MultiChoice is an official statement indicated that, “across the African continent, DStv continues to offer value to its customers with a variety of packages to choose from to keep the family entertained. DStv continues to look for ways to bring our customers the entertainment they love. Local content remains a strategic differentiator, and viewers can continue to enjoy the best in quality entertainment on Akwaaba Magic and other Africa Magic channels.
It added, “Our key priority is putting our customers’ needs at the heart of everything and we undertake to continue doing so. Thus, as Africa’s most-loved storyteller we considered the rate of consumer inflation and current economic pressures facing customers when considering our price adjustments which will come into effect as of 1st April 2025.”
CUTS International has raised concerns with the proposed increase, urging DSTV to give fair notice to consumers over its intention to adjust subscription fees and desist from the short notices it gives to its subscribers in Ghana.
“This short notice period may not have given subscribers adequate time to review their options or make necessary adjustments. Respect for consumers is fundamental in any market, particularly where services are paid for in advance and on a recurring basis.
“Providing timely and transparent communication around price changes is not only fair and reasonable but also helps to build trust and foster good customer relationships”, CUTS International said in a press release.
Similar concerns were raised by Nigerians when MultiChoice announced similar intentions to increase prices. Nigerians subsequently rejected the increase.
