Naa Torshie Family Defends… Says No Suit Against Her

The Head of Family of the KweiDornu Family of Teshie, Mr. Joseph Nii Afotey Annan said the family is not party to the supposed Interlocutory Injunction Writ filed against Irene Naa Torshie Addo, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a former Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency over her landed property.

It would be recalled that a Writ with Suit No. LD/1110/2018 was filed by Goodness Energy Limited and the Kweidornu family being the 2nd Plaintiff for an Order of Interlocutory Injunction to restrain her from interfering and occupying large track of land in Tema Community 18 which according to them belongs to the Kweidornu family.

Meanwhile, in an Affidavit in Opposition to the said Suit, Mr. Joseph Nii Afotey Annan, Head and lawful representative of the KweiDornu Family indicated that the KweiDornu Family has not authorized or sanctioned any Suit to be commenced in the Court by anybody in the name of the Family against Mrs. Irene Naa Torshie Addo.

He stated that, “The family has not sold any land to Goodness Energy Limited, the 1st Plaintiff that the family has not issued any land document in the name of Goodness Energy Limited.”

He also indicated that in October 2018, the Defendant (Naa Torshie Addo) approached the family of which discussions were held in respect of the land she is occupying and stressed that in view of the fact that the Family hasn’t sanctioned the pending Suit, the name of the 2nd Plaintiff, The KweiDorny Family, be struck out as party to the action and the injunction application dismissed.

However on her part, Irene Naa Torshie Addo also averred that it has become clear that the Head of Family and lawful representative of the KweiDornu Family, Mr. Joseph Afotey Annan has denied being aware and sanctioning the institution of the said Suit against her in respect of the land.

According to her, until September 2018, when her attention was drawn to a judgement, she wasn’t aware of any Court proceedings involving Mary Akuokor Tetteh and 3 others vrs Lands Commission even though she had been in possession of her land for over 12 years.

She said she acquired four adjourning lands at different times somewhere in 2006 and constructed a fence wall around the land recently and a security bedrooms where someone is staying.

Irene Naa Torshie also maintained that no one has ever attempted to lay claim over my land until recently when the writ was filed hence, she made enquiries.

According to her she met the lawful Head of the KweiDornu Family and some of his elders for the purpose of discussing the previous judgement they have obtained and to enquire whether their judgment extends to where her land is situated.

“I requested for the judgement plan and any supporting documents to enable my solicitors study as part of our discussion. The meeting was cordial and they assured to revert to me and my Solicitors only to be served with this Suit,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of Family denied any knowledge of the said Suit which was filed in its name.
According to the Defendant (Naa Torshie) the Plaintiff has not provided any document to the Court about which land they are laying claims to and for that matter praying the Court to dismiss their Injunction
