Nana Addo Should Introduce ‘Thursday Wear’ – Okyeame Kwame

Okyeame Kwame wants President Akufo-Addo to add another day to the conventional Friday Wear initiative introduced by Ex- President John Agyekum Kuffuor some years ago.

The rapper, acknowledging the essence of wearing made-in-Ghana clothes, told Citi FM’s Ann-Shirley Ziwu in an exclusive interview that it was important for Ghanaians to increase their love for clothes manufactured in the country.

He therefore mentioned how beneficial the introduction of Friday Wear by former President Kuffuor has been to the creative arts industry.

“President Kuffuor during his time instituted President’s Special Initiative that urged Ghanaians to put on African wear and it has changed the industry. It has improved the textile industry. It has improved the arts; more tailors became designers, look at the magazines that came up because we started believing in ourselves,” he said.

The Tourism Ambassador further called on Ex-President Kuffuor to encourage Nana Addo to add Thursdays to Fridays are official African Wear days.

“I was asking ex-President Kuffuor to tell Akufo-Addo to add the Thursday to the Friday, then the next President will add the Wednesday, the other one that follows will also add the Tuesday until Mondays which we all find boring, then we wear European clothes. I believe that if we do that, the arts industry will grow,” he added.

He made this appeal after a programme held at the residence of President Kuffuor on 7th February, 2018 to launch an endowment fund ahead of activities to mark Kuffuor’s 80th birthday which will be celebrated this year.

Okyeame Kwame as part of his role to Kuffuor Foundation will be holding musical concerts to raise funds in support of the cause.

Also present at the launch were CEO of Glitz Africa, Claudia Lumor, Coach Kwesi Appiah, footballer Stephen Appiah and broadcaster Kwabena Anokye-Adisi (Bola Ray).
