Nana B Contests NPP First Vice Chair

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has formally declared his candidacy for the position of National First Vice Chairman, setting the stage for a key internal contest as the party undertakes organizational reforms ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In an official statement released on Sunday, July 19,  Nana B confirmed his intention to seek the position, citing a commitment to party renewal and grassroots reconnection following the NPP’s electoral defeat in 2024. He described his decision as stemming from a “deep sense of duty” to contribute to the party’s restructuring efforts.

“I write with gratitude and a deep sense of duty to formally announce my intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman of our great party,” the statement read.

Nana B, who has served in various capacities within the party over a 26-year period, emphasized that his extensive experience across multiple levels of the NPP’s organizational structure positions him to effectively support the party’s rebuilding process. He noted that his political engagement began at the polling station level during the 2000 elections in the then Manhyia Constituency, where he served as an agent. He subsequently held roles as Polling Station Chairman in both the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Oforikrom constituencies.

His career within the party also includes constituency-level responsibilities, such as membership on the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency Campaign Team and later service as Communications Officer for the Oforikrom Constituency. At the tertiary level, Mr. Boakye served as President of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) at both the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Regionally, he was a member of the Ashanti Regional Communications Team and contributed to the party’s 2016 Ashanti Regional Campaign Team. On the national stage, Mr. Boakye has held several strategic portfolios, including Director of Events and Programmes for the National Youth Wing, National Youth Organiser, and Vice Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU).

He has also served on the NPP National Communications Team, the National Steering Committee, the National Executive Committee, and the National Council. His involvement in electoral processes includes membership on the party’s 2020 Presidential Election Petition Legal Team, as well as the 2020 and 2024 National Campaign Teams. He additionally served as Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 2025 National Delegates Conference.

In his declaration, Nana B stressed that unity and discipline within the party would be critical to achieving electoral success in 2028. He appealed to party executives, elders, patrons, and members across the country for their prayers, guidance, and support as the internal election process approaches.

“My aspiration is anchored on the belief that with unity of purpose and renewed determination, we can reposition our party for victory in the 2028 general elections,” he stated.

“I respectfully and humbly seek your prayers, guidance and support as we embark on this important journey together,” Nana B added.
