NAPO marks 54 in style

DR. MATTHEW Opoku Prempeh, nicknamed as ‘Napo’, birthed on May 23, 1968 in Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region, officially attained 54 years last Monday, May 23.

The big day was marked in style as Friends of Napo (FoN), which is made up close associates of Dr. Opoku Prempeh, made donations to students on behalf of the Energy Minister.

Virtually, all the school children in the Manhyia South Constituency, in the Kumasi Metropolis, where Napo is the Member of Parliament (MP), benefitted from FoN’s largesse.

The group presented a whopping 21,000 ‘brand Napo’ exercise books, 10,000 pens, 7,000 pencils and 14 brand new sewing machines to the beneficiary students and their teachers.

The schools include Konadu Yiadom M/A JHS, Odumase Extension M/A JHS, Dichemso M/A JHS A&B, Ashanti New Town M/A KG, Ave Maria R/C JHS and St. Louis Training College Demo JHS, among others.

FoN, who were determined to make Napo’s birthday enjoyable and memorable, also served soft drinks and meat pie to the school children, who were looking extremely happy.

Lawyer Mina Yeboah Antwi, a member of FoN, in her opening remarks, stated that “Dr. Prempeh loves children and education, especially the reading of books”, hence FoN’s display of love.

The ‘Birthday Boy’ (Napo) was not present at the short and colourful event. She said Napo “would be extremely happy about our show of love to the school children on his behalf”.

Nana Tima Boakye, another FoN member, urged the school children to “learn from Napo by learning seriously so they would grow to become influential people in future, saying “Napo has done it, so you can also do it”.

Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta aka ‘Tomtom’, the Manhyia South NPP Chairman, said Napo has worked to develop the constituency so he deserved to be celebrated on his birthday.
