Next Gen Infraco Advances Ghana’s Digital Frontier with Strategic Engagement with Hon. Sam George

A delegation from Next Gen Infraco (NGIC), led by Tenu Awoonor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Samuel Nartey George Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.

This meeting underscored NGIC’s pivotal role in accelerating Ghana’s ambitious digitization agenda, leveraging its innovative open-access infrastructure model.

NGIC is a digital infrastructure company building Ghana’s first open-access, wholesale fibre and wireless national network, deploying both 4G and exclusive 5G technologies to drive connectivity and innovation.

Their neutral-host model allows multiple Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to share the same infrastructure, reducing duplication, lowering costs, and accelerating nationwide coverage.

This model is recognized as the future of connectivity, maximizing efficiency, fostering competition, and ensuring affordable, high-quality internet access for all – without each operator having to build its own costly infrastructure.

The NGIC team commended the Minister on the nation’s significant strides in digital transformation, acknowledging the government’s visionary leadership in fostering a digitally inclusive society.

The core focus of the discussion cantered on NGIC’s strategic deployment of nationwide 4G and 5G infrastructure, critical components in bridging the digital divide and propelling Ghana’s economic growth.

NGIC is focused on delivering an open, wholesale 4G network and an exclusive 5G backbone, enabling affordable, high-speed internet for telcos, ISPs and enterprises.

NGIC provided a comprehensive update on their progress in rolling out both 4G and cutting-edge 5G services.

They highlighted the transformative potential of these technologies, emphasizing the tangible benefits of significantly faster data speeds, reduced latency, and enhanced connectivity.

These advancements are poised to revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, education, and financial services, particularly in underserved rural communities. By eliminating infrastructure duplication and promoting efficient network sharing, NGIC is helping to lower costs, expand coverage, and enhance service quality across Ghana and beyond.

The meeting underscored the paramount importance of a collaborative ecosystem, involving the government, private sector entities like NGIC and local communities, to effectively realize Ghana’s digital transformation objectives.

NGIC’s infrastructure deployment is directly aligned with the government’s vision of leveraging digital technology to drive inclusive economic development.

Discussions delved into the profound potential of 4G and 5G technologies to catalyse economic diversification and stimulate growth.

The capabilities of these technologies were explored in the context of improving access to essential services, fostering innovation and empowering citizens through digital literacy.

NGIC’s work is key to accelerating digital transformation, supporting smart cities, fintech, AI and IoT solutions, and driving economic growth. With the wholesale 4G capacity, MNOs and ISPs can enhance their network reach, improve reliability, and deliver better data services to consumers and businesses.

Hon. Samuel Nartey George expressed his profound appreciation for NGIC’s dedication and tangible efforts in building Ghana’s digital backbone.

He also urged NGIC to fast-track the commencement of commercial operations, emphasizing the need for the intended benefits of their innovative model to be realized as soon as possible.
