Otumfuo Buys Book For GH 50K

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, stole the show at launch of the book, ‘From the Hut to Oxford’ authored by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi when he purchased a copy at an amount of Gh 50,000 approximately $10,000.

The 368-paged autobiography, narrates a detailed account about how Most Rev. Dr. Kwasi Sarpong, from a deprived background at Mpehi, near Offinso, worked hard to become successful.

Boafuor Owusu Amankwatia, the Bantamahene, who represented the Asantehene during the launch, said “Otumfuo is buying a copy of the book for Gh 50,000”.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who was also present, purchased the first-two copies of the book for Gh 20,000.

In his address, ex-President Kufuor said it takes bold people like Most Rev. Dr. Kwasi Sarpong to come out with an autobiography, saying “writing an autobiography exposes you to public ridicule”.

The former President of Ghana said Most Rev. Dr. Kwasi Sarpong’s book would influence him to also come out with a book about his life “to help future generations”.

Most Rev. Dr. Kwasi Sarpong said accounts about his life, whether positive or negative, have always been exaggerated by people, saying “I am neither an angel nor a devil”.

According to him, several people have condemned him unjustifiably in life, saying “whatever happens in your life you must accept what you are but not what people think you are”.

The man of God said people have peddled falsehood about his life “including once being accused of trying to become the president of Ghana. But in all, God has remained faithful to me”.

He said he wrote the autobiography with the sole intention of sharing his lifetime experiences with the world, so that future generations could be positively influenced.

Launching the book, Msgr. Prof. Dr. Stephen Ntim, the Dean of Education, Catholic University College, Fiapre, said the book offers lifetime experiences “so everybody needs a copy”.
