Partey Faces Court Over Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Ghanaian international player, Thomas Partey has been officially charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the London Metropolitan Police.

The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022 and involve three different women.

According to the police, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three counts of rape are connected to a second woman, and the sexual assault charge involves a third woman.

The former Arsenal midfielder Partey, 32, denies all the allegations.

The charges come after an investigation that began in February 2022 when police received the first report of rape.

In a statement released by his lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, Partey maintains his innocence and says he is ready to clear his name in court.

“Thomas has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation,” Wiltshire stated.

“He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, my client cannot comment further.”

Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially ended on June 30, 2025, after five years with the Premier League side. During his time at the club, the Ghanaian international made 130 league appearances, scored nine goals, and played a key role in their Champions League campaign, where Arsenal reached the semi-finals last season.

An Arsenal spokesperson confirmed the end of Partey’s contract but said the club would not comment on the legal matter. Both the Football Association and the Premier League have also declined to give statements.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the case, emphasized that supporting the victims remains the police’s top priority. “We encourage anyone who may have been affected by this case or has useful information to reach out to our investigation team by emailing [email protected],” he said.

Partey is expected to appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In addition to his club career, Partey has represented Ghana more than 50 times and most recently played in the national team’s World Cup qualification matches in March 2025.
