Pep Guardiola Wins first Trophy for Man City

Another match delivered, another trophy and first to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beginning of a new season on Saturday as they kicked off the 2018/19 season by claiming the campaign’s first piece of silverware, making light work of Chelsea with a 2-0 victory.

Sergio Aguero bagged his 200th Citizens goal to open the scoring at Wembley as his well-taken effort from outside the box gave Willy Caballerono chance after coming through the legs of Toni Rudiger.

They did not quite hit the heights that were reached at times last season, but City still eased by Chelsea and in truth they probably should have won by more than the two-goal margin while still looking like they had more gears to move through as well.

Chelsea’s biggest threat throughout came from Callum Hudson-Odoi who, at just 17, was one of the few positives for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Jorginho operated as the playmaker from deep with Cesc Fabregas and Ross Barkley to his sides in a midfield that can only improve whenN’Golo Kante returns from his extended holidays.

Bernardo Silva capped an impressive performance by assisting a second for Aguero as he slipped a ball into the Argentine’s path, allowing him to slot beyond his compatriot Caballero for the second time.

Typically, the game’s final minutes were engulfed with substitutions as each team was permitted six and the intensity suffered as a result.
