Police rejects ‘state of emergency’ calls

THE ASHANTI Regional Police Command have assured that they are firmly in control of the security situation in the region.

The police has therefore vehemently debunked public assertions that a state of emergency should be declared in the Ashanti region, following rise in crime.

ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, said it is very surprising for some people to even suggest the idea of a state of emergency to be declared.

“I don’t agree with the so-called people that you claim are calling for a State of Emergency to be declared in the Ashanti Region now”, he indicated.

The police PRO admitted that indeed there have been some incidents of crime in the region lately, especially in Kumasi, but the police are still in control of security.

He therefore appealed passionately to the citizenry to remain calm and go about their legal duties because as he puts it “the police are firmly in control”.

ASP Ahianyo said three out of the 7 robbers that shot and killed a man at Alabar recently, had been apprehended and they are assisting in investigations.

He said the police have made further investigations and so far they (police) have credible information about the other suspects so they would be arrested soon.

“Currently, the police are on the heels of about seven or more suspects, who we believed have a link with the Alabar robbery”, he disclosed on Akoma fm.

ASP Ahianyo stated emphatically that very soon all the suspects in connection with the Alabar robbery would be smoked out from their hidden places.
