The National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU), a divisional chapter of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has strongly condemned what it describes as attempts by political party foot soldiers to hijack the operations of the National Service Authority (NSA).
In a press release dated 11 April 2025, and signed by NASASU Chairman Ayirebi Adubofour, the union expressed deep concern over increasing political interference, warning that such actions erode democratic principles, undermine public trust, and compromise the integrity of state institutions.
“We the staff of the National Service Authority, strongly condemn the practice of political party foot soldiers attempting to hijack the Authority. This phenomenon undermines the principle of democracy, erodes public trust, and compromises the integrity of our institutions,” the statement read.
The union reminded the public that the NSA is a public institution governed by the Public Services Commission and that all recruitments and transfers are done in line with its approved Scheme of Service and in accordance with Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution and relevant Acts of Parliament.
Calling on political actors to desist from using the NSA to serve partisan interests, NASASU urged the government to protect state institutions from such interference.
“We call on the government to ensure that state institutions like the National Service Authority are protected from political interference,” the union emphasised.
In particular, the union appealed to the youth in the Western Region to exercise restraint and allow the NSA’s management to carry out its mandate without disruption.
NASASU further called on the management of the NSA to uphold the rule of law and act in accordance with the National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 1119), the Public Services Commission Act 1994 (Act 482), and Article 195 of the Constitution.
The press release concluded with a reminder that internal matters such as transfers and recruitment fall strictly within the mandate of the Authority and not under the influence of external groups or individuals.
